The territory of the town of Castel del Monte seems not to belong in our latitudes, is certainly not what we used to see often, so much so that the ravines and plateaus above the village was made famous by westerns of Sergio Leone by the cycle of Trinity and many Hollywood blockbuster set in the wild steppes covered by barbarians in war. It is the vast territory known as the Campo Imperatore;
but the suggestion of both open and empty spaces should not pretend that this scale has ever been so abandoned trails and valleys were covered, until a few decades ago, not by armies but by herds of barbarians, led by pastoral poets who spent long hours reading to guard the sheep and the Orlando Furioso, Jerusalem Delivered. The country suspended between the high peaks of the Gran Sasso and down the lush valley of Tiryns, is now a serene and peaceful resort, full of fresh air and breathtaking views, excellent starting point for excursions into the peaks.
