Torino di Sangro, a town of 3,124 inhabitants in the province of Chieti. The origins of the name are still unclear, but according to legend best known residents of Civita di Sangro, attacked by the Saracens fled preceded by a bull that stood beneath the ancient tower, where they fled, creating a new country named Turin. After the unification of Italy the name was changed in Torino di Sangro to avoid postal problems with the homonymous town of Piedmont.

The Forest of Torino di Sangro Abruzzo is the only area in which it lives and reproduces the tortoise.
